All learners who require specialised support in terms of accessing the curriculum will be considered for admission. Doctor's diagnosis, therapy reports, psychological assessments and current school reports are essential. Admission is dependent of availibility of space. Admissions team comprises of teachers and therapists and is headed by Aradhna Misra.
Types of Programmes We Offer:
- Academic Programme from Grade R to Grade 7. (CAPS Curriculum)
- Differentiated CAPS Curriculum. (CAPS-SID)
- Technical Occupational Skills (TOS)
Criteria for Admission
- The prospective learner must benefit from the school programme i.e. he/ she must be educable. Unfortunately the LPID programme is not offered at our school, so parents will be refered elsewhere, should the learner be able to benefit from the LPID programme.
- Documentation to be submitted to Aradhna Misra, as per directives when contact is made.
- A meeting will be set up with the parents to explain about the school and the programmes offered, thus making screening of the child compulsory for placement on a waiting list.
- Admission to Grade R, is age four turning five by 30th June in the year of admission.
- Admission to Grade 1 is age five turning six by 30th June in the year of admission.
- The learner may remain at school until the last day of the year in which such learner reaches the age of seventeen years. However, if the learner is earmarked for sheltered employment, such learner will remain at the school up until the month in which the learner reaches the age of eighteen years.
- All learners will be screened over a 3-day period, during which they will be assessed by a class teacher and the therapists. Thereafter a case discussion will be held and recommendations are made. This will be communicated to the parent.
- Language of teaching and learning is English. IsiZulu is the First Additional Language.
- Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Speech therapy will be offered, however, the school has only 1 Speech therapist, 1 Physiotherapist and 2 Occupational Therapists. the demands for therapy by the ASD learners cannot be adequately met by these 4 therapists and where advised, private therapy is essential.
- The dispensing of medication and all nursing procedures is done by a trained educator as we no longer have a nursing sister post at school.
